Verandah Posts Melbourne | Turned Timber Made in Our Bayswater Workshop
Verandah Posts and Heritage Timber, Made in Melbourne
We turn verandah posts, balusters, finials and fretwork in our own workshop at 2/60 Jersey Road, Bayswater — and we have been doing it since 1980. If you are restoring a period home anywhere in Melbourne, the timber can be made here, forty minutes from the city, rather than ordered in from interstate or overseas.
Melbourne's housing stock is the reason this business exists. The Victorian terraces of Carlton, Fitzroy and South Melbourne, the Edwardian and Federation homes through Hawthorn, Malvern, Essendon and Coburg, the Californian bungalows of Ivanhoe and Camberwell — each period has its own post proportions, baluster profiles and fretwork patterns, and they are not interchangeable. A Victorian terrace post on an Edwardian verandah reads as wrong even to people who cannot say why.
Matching what is already there
Most of our Melbourne work is replacement rather than new. One post has rotted at the base, a section of balustrade has gone, the fretwork on one side of the verandah has failed. Because you are local, you have the easiest option available: bring the old piece to the workshop, or we can work from photographs and measurements. We turn to match, so the repair disappears into the original.
Heritage overlays
Many Melbourne suburbs sit within a heritage overlay, and councils commonly require replacement detail to match the original profile. We work from your existing piece rather than substituting the nearest catalogue item. Approval rests with your council, but we can supply a drawing of the turned profile for a planning application.

Delivery and pickup across Melbourne
Metro Melbourne delivery is typically 1–2 business days for items under 2.4m, and 2–5 business days for oversize items up to 4m, which travel by tail-lift truck and need a forklift or two people to unload. Made-to-order items are manufactured within 2–6 weeks before dispatch.
Click & Collect from Bayswater is free with 24 hours' notice — often the simplest option for builders working in the eastern and outer eastern suburbs. Full detail is in our Shipping & Delivery Policy.
For Melbourne builders and trades
We supply builders, carpenters, restoration contractors and joiners across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, from a single replacement post to full project quantities. Bulk pricing and trade accounts are available. You are welcome to visit the workshop and see the work before you commit.
