Verandah Posts and Heritage Timber for Sydney and NSW
Sydney's period housing places particular demands on replacement timber. The terraces of Paddington, Glebe, Newtown and Balmain run to slender turned posts with cast iron lace between them, while the Federation bungalows through the Inner West and North Shore use heavier squared and chamfered posts, often 115×115 or larger. The two are not interchangeable, and a post that is close but not correct is visible from the street.
Classic Woodcraft has been turning replacement posts, balusters, finials and fretwork in our Melbourne workshop since 1980. Most of our NSW work reaches us as photographs — you do not need to remove a post or freight us a sample. Clear photos taken against a tape measure, together with the overall length and the section size, are usually enough for us to reproduce the profile.
Heritage conservation areas
Much of inner Sydney sits within a heritage conservation area, and councils commonly require that replacement detail matches the original. We work from your existing profile rather than a catalogue approximation, which is what those conditions generally ask for. Final approval rests with your council, but we can supply a drawing of the turned profile for your application.

Timber
LOSP treated pine for painted exterior work, which suits most Sydney restoration jobs. Cypress and Merbau are available where a harder or naturally durable timber is specified.

We have been freighting long timber interstate for more than forty years. Posts up to 4.5m are packed for road freight and delivered to Sydney metro, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Central Coast and regional NSW. Interstate transit typically runs 3–10 business days once the order is ready to dispatch. Made-to-order and structural timber items are manufactured within 2–6 weeks; we confirm an estimated dispatch window with you when the order is placed.
