The craft
No program. No template. Just the lathe and a lifetime of practice.
Most turned timber today is cut by machine from a drawing. Hand turning is different. The turner reads the grain, shapes each bead and cove by eye, and matches an original piece by feel.
Wayne has been doing this since the late 1970s. He turns the pieces a machine can’t: oversize columns and urns, one-off restorations, and copies of a single surviving post from a heritage home.
